DiFonzo Memorial Scholarship Tournament

The Fifth Annual Thomas L. DiFonzo Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament was held on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Laconia Country Club. The DiFonzo Scholarship was established by Laconia’s members in 2018 in memory of the club’s long-time course superintendent, Tom DiFonzo, who lost his battle with cancer that year. Since the fund was endowed, Laconia has hosted this annual golf tournament to help grow the balance of the fund. The “DiFonzo” is now awarded annually to two employees of Laconia Country Club who have shown financial need and a commitment to their ongoing education.

Sixty-four players participated, making for a great turnout. During the post-tournament gathering, silent auctions were held. Sam Stafford, one of the two Laconia employees receiving the 2022-23 DiFonzo awards, was introduced and explained how the DiFonzo Scholarship had made it possible for him to continue his studies in computer gaming at New Hampshire Technical Institute.

In addition, Roger Gagne was recognized as the 2022 DiFonzo Tournament Honoree posthumously. Roger was an avid golfer and one of the most senior members of the Laconia Country Club. He loved the game and spending time with his many friends at the club since becoming a member in the 1950s. He was a generous supporter of the DiFonzo Scholarship since its inception and donated several of his beautiful landscape paintings of Laconia Country Club as auction items to support the fund.
